Shafali Verma named in India's T20 World Cup squad
Verma had an excellent T20 Challenger Trophy in India this month, finishing with 189 runs at 47.25. She struck the ball at 156.20 in the tournament, and notched up a terrific 48-ball 89* in the final to lead India C to victory.
Opener Smriti Mandhana has been named Harmanpreet's deputy for the tournament, which begins with India taking on the hosts in Sydney on 21 February.
A new addition to the squad is Bengal batter Richa Ghosh, who impressed in the recently concluded Women's T20 Challenger Trophy in India.
Jemimah Rodrigues, another impressive teenager, has also been drafted into the squad. The 19-year-old has been in the national set-up for a while now, having represented India in 48 games. Rodrigues was a part of the previous edition of the T20 World Cup in 2018 and featured in five matches.
All-rounders Deepti Sharma and Veda Krishnamurthy, spin-bowling duo Radha and Pooja Yadav, and pacers Arundhati Reddy and Shikha Pandey have all retained their place in the squad.
